Meeting Overview
As one of the oldest active quilting organizations in South Florida, the Guild sponsors a wide range of activities for its members. You are certain to find something you like and your active participation will ensure that the Palm Beach County Quilters’ Guild will always have something to offer. Take the time to volunteer on committees and get involved with the Guild’s activities—it will ensure the continuation of those activities and will enhance your experience as a quilter. As with all organizations, success depends upon the contributions and participations of all the members. Some activities are discontinued periodically due to lack of participation but can always be reactivated if there is an interest. e.g., Block of the month.
At the Meeting:
The following brief introduction is an explanation of each of our activities. For additional information and/or to volunteer, please contact the chairperson for that activity or any board member or click here to contact us.
Membership
When you arrive at the meeting, check in at the Membership Table. This ensures that the Chairperson is able to keep accurate records of attendance and can communicate with individuals if necessary. Please advise the Membership Chair of changes in address, phone, or e-mail. Annual membership dues are due in January of each year. New members receive a Membership packet which includes a welcome message, a copy of the Handbook, Roster, a Guild Pin and an embroidered patch. The patch is to be made into a name badge which should be worn at each meeting. To encourage members to make and wear their name tags, a drawing is held each month for those who wear their name tags and a small prize is awarded.
Community Outreach
As a part of the Guild’s commitment to the community, we donate quilts to various groups throughout the county such as children’s hospitals & various shelters. Guild members are encouraged to participate in making these quilts by taking kits with fabric and directions to work on at home. Different kits ask you to sew blocks together, to apply binding to a pieced quilt, to machine quilt, etc. Sew-ins are held two times a year after the general meeting to complete the quilts. The quilts bring comfort and happiness to the recipients and satisfaction to those of us who make them. Learn more.
Boutique
The Guild has an assortment of handmade items for sale. If you have any ideas for items that might be appropriate, please let the Boutique Chair know.
Sew & Tell
A highlight of each meeting. This is the time when members display quilts or quilt related items they have recently completed. Upon arrival, register with the Sew and Tell Chair and he or she will call your name during the meeting. This is the time when we can proudly display our work and give the general membership a chance to enjoy and be inspired by the work of their fellow quilters.
Programs & Workshops
Most meetings are followed by a special program which is free to all members. They may be lectures, slide shows or hands-on activities. The Program Chair coordinates the programs and workshops & welcomes suggestions from members for future programs.
